Poppy Jasper Sterling Silver Pendant

Sometimes a gemstone gives me an idea for a design before I've even found the stone I want to use!

That was certainly the case with this Poppy Jasper pendant. Having seen some beautiful examples of Poppy Jasper, I had an idea for a pendant inspired by a field of poppies. The next challenge was finding just the right stone.

Poppy Jasper comes in all sorts of wonderful earthy colours and patterns, but I wanted something quite particular — a stone with clearly defined, rusty-red markings that really reminded me of poppies scattered across a field. After a little searching, I found just the one!

I've kept the front of the pendant simple, allowing the natural patterns of the jasper to do the talking. But turn it over and there's a little surprise.

On the reverse, I've hand-pierced a delicate design featuring a poppy in full bloom, a drooping bud and a seed head. The fine cut-out lines create a subtle illustration in the polished silver, adding another dimension to the pendant without taking anything away from the beautiful gemstone.

Designed and hand-fabricated in my Silver Realm workshop, this is a one-of-a-kind piece. The natural markings of the stone make it impossible to create another quite like it.
