This substantial silver cuff is formed from a single flat sheet of silver, gradually worked by hand into its three-dimensional shape through repeated cycles of hammering, forming and annealing.
There is no soldered construction and nothing added to create the form. Instead, the silver is worked over forming stakes and shaped by hand, with the hammer marks becoming part of the finished surface. It's a process that allows the metal to develop gradually, and means that each cuff will have subtle variations of its own.
The oversized hallmark is deliberately part of the design. Rather than hiding it discreetly inside the cuff, I chose a traditional spread mark — a much larger hallmark that becomes a feature in its own right and another detail to discover on closer inspection.

Each cuff is individually made to order in my Leicestershire workshop and sent to the Birmingham Assay Office for its special spread hallmark.
