Synthetic Sapphire Silver Pendant

Deep blue sapphire surrounded by layers of hand-worked silver.

This one-of-a-kind pendant has been made entirely by hand from sterling silver sheet and wire, with a faceted synthetic sapphire at its centre.

I built the setting around the oval stone, framing the rich blue sapphire with layers of silver that have been shaped and textured by hand. The irregular surface catches the light around the edge of the stone, creating a contrast between the crisp facets of the sapphire and the more organic texture of the silver.

Rather than using a ready-made setting, the pendant has been fabricated from scratch in my Leicestershire workshop. Small variations and marks left by the making process are part of its character and make this a genuinely individual piece.

The pendant is finished with a polished bail and supplied on an 18-inch sterling silver rounded box chain.
